Dear Mom and Dad,
Why did you buy those flowers?
You laid them down only to watch them wilt
day by day
as if the water from your tears could restore them.
Can't you hear me?
Why is my place not set?
I'm hungry too;
My stomach is as empty as my heart.
And I see you've stored my toys in boxes
and left my bear on my bed.
If punishing me makes you cry so much,
why must you do it?
I'll never ask for anything again,
but please just kiss me goodnight
and tuck me in like you used to.
